Jimmy Barnes, Marcia Hines and Emma Watkins among stars arriving in Perth to support Telethon 2023

It’s the biggest fundraising weekend on the WA calendar and there is one major goal in mind — to change the lives of sick kids for the better.

Telethon 2023, the 56th year of the beloved event, launches at RAC Arena in Perth’s CBD on Saturday at 7pm.

Among the big names coming to town to support the fundraising juggernaut are Aussie rock royalty Jimmy Barnes, music icon Marcia Hines, former Wiggle Emma Watkins — who now performs as Emma Memma — ventriloquist and comedian David Strassman and Human Nature’s Phil Burton.

Joining them will be SAS Australia’s Chief Instructor Ant Middleton, Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington, The Morning Show’s Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies and popular presenter Dr Chris Brown.

And it wouldn’t be Telethon without the Little Telethon Stars: Connor, Sophia, Harrison and Emily.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has arrived in Perth and said he was ready for a big weekend ahead.

“I am so excited to be in WA this weekend because of course it’s Telethon weekend and you can feel a real uplift here as WA does something that other states used to do but don’t do anymore — unite in a common interest to raise money to assist sick kids and their families.

“So a big shoutout at the beginning of this weekend to all those involved in Telethon and an encouragement to dig deep.”

WA’s generous spirit was already on show on Friday with various challenges and impressive fundraising efforts underway.

Telethon 2023 takes place from October 21 to 22, with 26 hours of continuous entertainment broadcast live on Channel 7 and 7plus.

The Telethon Family Festival, featuring rides, face painting and an animal farm, will also return to Wellington St.

Telethon was established in 1968 and currently supports 107 charities and beneficiaries across WA.

Record year

Last year a record $71.4 million was donated to improve the health and wellbeing of children across the state.

The annual fundraiser is among the biggest in the world and has raised more than $528 million over the last 55 years.
