An electrical fire has caused the mass evacuation of a Melbourne Hospital.
Fire Rescue Victoria was called to Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s at Sunshine Hospital about 9.30am on Sunday to reports of a fire.
“22 women and 12 babies were safely relocated to other areas of the hospital,” Western Health Chief Operating Officer John Ferraro said.

“There were no injuries to patients or staff.
“This will have no impact to hospital services, including maternity, or women planning to give birth at the hospital in the coming days.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation however it is not being treated as suspicious.”

The fire was extinguished within five minutes, with 19 firefighters tasked to the hospital.
Firefighters remained on scene to ventilate the area as some smoke logging occurred.
Worksafe Victoria, Energy Safe Victoria and Maribyrnong Council Health Inspector have been notified of the Incident.
